Star Wars: Destiny - New Transformation Cards Released

Fantasy Flight Games back in January announced that Star Wars: Destiny was coming to an end. No new sets would be released and even though there are still ways to pick up dice and cards, production will slowly be winding down.
However, despite this sad news the team at Fantasy Flight Games appear to still be releasing content for the game. The new Transformation Cards were released this week which offer up new ways to use a selection of existing and most welcome characters in your games.
The main focus behind these Transformation Cards is to present you with a double-sided card which flips due to a certain gamestate being reached. For example, when you see Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader above you'll note that he has a trigger which changes him into the dark overlord of the Sith.

When it comes to the rules for these new cards, a few additional details have been included as part of their Rules Reference for the game. You will need the original dice for a lot of these characters although some of them work independently of dice which is kind of fun!

As you build your roster of heroes or villains to use in-game, you must use the points cost presented on Side A although you can also use Side B a points value is listed there. In this way, you have a lot of flexibility in terms of how you assemble your team.

You might also note that, as with this Obi-Wan Kenobi card below, there is sometimes no dice available on Side A of these cards. Instead, Side B offers up the chance to introduce dice into your pool once a certain trigger has been hit.
Obi-Wan Kenobi has this built into his character as does Han Solo who can get unfrozen from carbonite and then enters the game as one of your companions.
Another new rule that you'll see crop up (since we're talking about Han Solo) is Team-Up. This reduces the cost for the characters mentioned on the card when it comes to building your roster and means that you can make some nicely themed hero and villain teams.

This Transformation release, and whatever else they have planned for the future with these free updates, means that they can also introduce some beloved characters from the animated shows. For example, you can now rock the likes of Fives and Wolffe as part of your force now.
In addition to some new characters, you'll also find a selection of new Plots and Battlefields which you can use to try out new and interesting combinations. Again, you will need to somehow source the dice in order to play with a lot of these cards but it will be fun to see what people do now they have this new content to tinker with.
Star Wars: Destiny was an absolutely fantastic game for me when it first came out. I loved diving in and picking through those big boxes, searching for the characters that I wanted. I even loved doing a bit of trading to find the characters that I wanted.

Yes, you could never guarantee you'd find the cards and dice you wanted but I developed a nice collection which I've played a lot of fun games with. I didn't win very often, mostly due to my janky and themed decks, but it was great none-the-less.

Maybe this will be a good reason to break out the Star Wars: Destiny once more and give things another throw of the dice?
